Fissure Sealant

Fissure sealants are a plastic coating that is painted onto the grooves of a tooth.

This coating prevents food and bacteria from collecting in these vulnerable areas that often cannot be reached properly by the bristles of a toothbrush. Fissure sealants have been shown to reduce decay by 88% after 12 months and by 57% 48-54 months after placement. Having a fissure sealant placed is not painful and is an excellent way of introducing children to the dental environment.
